And this weeks celebrity in the Love Light Spot Light, is R&B singer and Aquarius, Anita Baker.

Born Anita Denise Baker, January 26, 1958 in Toledo, Ohio, she was given up at the age of two by her teenage mother to live and be raised by a foster family in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of twelve her foster parents died and she was raised by her foster sister until adulthood. She began singing at the age of sixteen at various Detroit night clubs where she was discovered by bandleader, David Washington, who invited her to audition for the funk band, Chapter 8.

In 1975 she joined the group Chapter 8 and toured with them as their lead singer. In 1979 the group signed a record deal with Ariola Records and recorded their first album, Chapter 8  featuring singles like, "Ready for Your Love" and the more popular classic single from the group with Anita as lead singer, "I Just Want to Be Your Girl". That same year Ariola was bought out by Arista Records and both Anita and the group she was a part of, Chapter 8, were dropped from the label.

But as fate would have it, Anita received a call in 1982 from a former associate of Ariola Records, Otis Smith, and convinced her to sign to his Beverly Glen label and her solo career as we know her for today was born with the release of her debut album, The Songstress, which produced classic singles from it like, "No More Tears", "You're the Best Thing Yet", and one of her most popular songs yet still today, "Angel".

Since then Anita has put out numerous albums with chart breaking hit singles that are timeless classics likes, "Caught Up in the Rapture, "Sweet Love", "You Bring Me Joy" from her second album, Rapture in 1986. And the classic hits kept coming with her follow-up third album, Giving You the Best That I Got, which included classics like, "Just Because", Fairy Tales, and the title track that's still heavily requested at urban weddings all over today, "Giving You the Best That I Got".

The list of timeless classic hits by Anita Baker continue on long and strong well into the new millennium even after taking a long hiatus from 1996 to the early 2ooo's to raise her two sons. More recently, Baker returned to the spotlight with the release of her recorded version of Tyrese's hit, "Lately" in August of 2012. She not only made national headlines with the release of the song she made history with it as well. The single was played in heavy rotation every hour on the hour on urban contemporary stations across the country making Anita Baker the first artist to ever make a song debut of this kind.

Anita Baker...A classy Lady, a Living Legend, and a Songstress of Love who's body of musical work will remain timeless classics for generations to come.

Fun facts fans may not know about Anita Baker:

Did you know Anita Baker's singing career almost didn't happen? When the 70's group, Chapter 8, she began her professional singing career in and sang lead for was dropped from Arista Records in 1979, the label told Anita she didn't have a "star quality" singing voice. So she returned to Detroit and became a waitress and law firm secretary. Can you believe that? The world was almost deprived of her gift that is clearly a God infused talent.

Anita Baker is also an eight time Grammy winner from seventeen nominations, four American Music Awards from nine nominations, and seven Soul Train Awards from twelve nominations.

Anita also received a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star in 1994. And she won the 2005 Artist of the Year at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards.

Now here's Anita Baker with this weeks Love Light Spotlight song, "Lead Me Into Love"one of my favorites by her, from her third album released in 1988, Giving You the Best That I Got.

Until next time...I surround you in LOVE & light! So remember to always keep your heart open and your love light shining bright.
